Performature: Performateur

Conceived and led by WeiZen Ho

26-31 March 2019

A collective of installation, sound and performing artists will explore ways of extending their visual and performance boundaries, spatially and conceptually.

In this process they will consider reformulating the language/vocabulary that has been built up around their practices over time. The provocation is to identify and play with the concept of “performature and performateur”, investigating how those terms could shift their approach towards performance-devising.

The collective consists of: Concept: WeiZen Ho; installation artists: Sue Callanan, Margaret Roberts, Kirtika Kain; performing artists: Stella Chen, Ryuichi Fujimura, Nicola Heywood, WeiZen Ho, Phillip Mills, Alan Schacher; Musicians: Laura Altman, Romy Caen, Melanie Eden, Melanie Herbert, Peter Farrar, Luiz Gabriel Gubeissi, Rhys Mottley; film artist: Hina Mir; product design student: Oliver Damian.

The collective mix changes, expanding and contracting over the course of the whole week. Articulate will be open for:

Research days : Tuesday-Thursday 26-28/3 11am-5pm
Actions & Performances #1 Friday 29/3 6-8pm
Actions & Performances #2 Saturday 30/3 3-5pm
Actions & Performances #3 Sunday 31/3 12-2pm

More details to come as the project evolves:

Democratic Engagement is a collaborative exhibition by print artists Evan Pank & Chloe Granato-sing.  Utilising their skill in screen printing, spray paint and collage, they will  create work that explores the Liberal party’s time in office leading up to the state election.  Covering issues such as public infrastructure, lockout laws and environmental issues the artists will seek to create a dialogue with the audience about the city and state around them while presenting their own perspectives with the looming election.

Democratic Engagement runs concurrently with Social Conscience in ArticulateUpstairs, in which Clancy Gibson and Matthew Newkirk explore related ideas and languages.
